“ Oh wow. We were not prepared for the excellence. Randomly popped by on day two of my husband’s birthday trip to Chicago, and what a happy accident it was. We snagged a front row seat at the counter after a quick and worth it 30-minute wait, right next to the expo. As a food nerd (I’m sorry!) this was the perfect spot to watch all the action go down, and the food was even better than the well-oiled show displayed on the flattops. Upon learning that we were celebrating a birthday tomorrow, my hubby’s burger arrived with a lit candle, and a surprise ice cream was delivered at the end of the meal with the same. Two very nice touches that made the whole experience extra special. The food, my word, was SO GOOD. Burgers with perfect runny eggs (for which we watched a dude hand-center the yolks in each of a dozen tiny sauté pans), and bacon that is unmatched in flavor, texture, and seasoning. Every bite was a perfect bite. That is what life is all about. Service was on the money - everyone was clearly busy but we wanted for nothing and appreciated our waiter’s good humor and attention to detail. Pros all around, and the special touches meant a great deal. We need a nap now, but we can’t wait to return on our next trip to Chicago (or maybe Sunday morning before our flight back to NY). Thank you, Au Cheval! ”
“ Awesome place for a great burger! Recommend making a reservation or checking on occupancy since you might have to wait on rush hours. Juicy, tasty and enough hamburgers!!! Loved the fries!!! They have an outside sitting available but the real mood is in the inside! Our server took his time explaining the options and recommendations. All of them were on point. We were a party of 6 including 2 kids. ”
“ One of my favourite burger places!!!! The bacon is such a huge add to the overall burger and I absolutely loved everything we ordered. The burger, the fries, definitely a lot of food so I split it with my friend. The key lime pie was not too sweet, a perfect way to finish the meal. If you ever are in the neighborhood, definitely worth trying! We did have to wait for 1 hour but decided to go play pickle ball right beside the restaurant, so a great way to kill sometime! ”
“ Holy cow! This place is legit! I can’t imagine how a burger could taste any better than the one that I just had. This holds the top spot for any burger I have ever had. My wife and I sat at the counter. I had the single cheeseburger (which is a double patty, and the double is a triple patty) with an egg. My wife had the chilaquiles. We shared fries. I’m typically a fast eater even with more savory dishes, but this made me slow down, because of how unbelievably delicious it was. My wife enjoyed the chilaquiles, and would recommend them for those that don’t eat beef. Oh — and the fries were out of this world! This place is a must visit. Full stop! ”
“ WOW, WOW and WOW!!!!! whole new playing field for burgers! Au Cheval at this point is a Chicago Burger staple. For a basic burger it's definitely in top 10 in the city. I've been here maybe 8 times at this point. I always get the double cheeseburger with the egg and the thick cut bacon and fries. Every time It's cooked perfectly and it's always juicy, egg cooked perfect every time. I'm posting multiple pictures just to show you consistency so accurate. Oh my goodness it's mouth watering amazing! I mean just look at the pictures! i've also had the chicken wings, which were phenomenal. They definitely have a system down in the kitchen that makes the food super consistent and I love that, makes you wanna come back. Service was great we got chefs table seating so we were able to watch everything be prepared. It's in a cool west loop location, they are currently in a remodel, so keep that in mind... 100% recommend! ”
